namvets.com  Welcome home Bothers and Sisters!

Dear Sir/Madam:

I read with great interest the incorporation of your group and am writing to request your support for a school that was recently named in honor of my father, Sgt Roberto Ituarte.  It is the only school in the southwest region named after a Vietnam Veteran.  He was the second El Pasoan to die in Vietnam.  My mother grew up in Deming, New Mexico, where our grandparents and extended family still live.  We had just arrived from Hawaii for the Christmas holidays in 1965, where we were going to wait for our dad to arrive, when our family was told of his death.

Sgt Robert Ituarte was a U.S. Marine who joined the service in 1958 at the age of 17. He re-enlisted in 1962.  He was stationed in Kaneohe Marine Base with "A" Co., 1st Bn., 4th Marines and then landed in Chu Lai, Vietnam on May 7, 1965, at which time he served with "E" Co., 2nd Bn., 7th Marines.  While participating in "Operation Harvest Moon," Sgt. Ituarte was killed-in-action on December 11, 1965, at the age of 24.  His unit greatly mourned his loss.  They wanted to honor Sgt Ituarte and a plaque was dedicated in his honor along with a status of St. Ignatius.  These are on display in the interior room of Mount Carmel Church.

The following is information regarding the opening ceremony and the "Freedom Tree" Campaign that we will be having.  I hope that I can count on your support in honor of Sgt Ituarte.  I am also including an enchilada dinner form.  We are trying to raise monies for the Elementary School to secure a bronze statue, trees and other school projects.  Would you be able to provide some information in your monthly newsletter about current and future projects?

Please feel free to email me with any questions.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,

Dolores Ituarte-Valenzuela
