namvets.com Welcome home Bothers and Sisters! |
As you can see our newsletter has taken on a new look. I hope you like it. Mrs. Butch Benson (D.J.), will be helping me out with the newsletters from now on. At this time I also would like to thank the Whirlpool Corporation for the VERY generous donation of the printing of our newsletter.
I hope you will let us know what you like or dislike about the new format, and if you have any articles you think would be of interest for future issues of the newsletter, either mail them to our mailing address—P. O. Box 8589, Michigan City, Indiana 46361 or e-mail them to Butch and D.J.’s home at benson@csinet.net.
D. J. has asked me to ask each of you for news of any reunions coming up in the next few months or special events that you would like to see mentioned in the newsletter. She will try to accommodate everyone.
The next regular monthly meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, April 17, 2002 at 7:00 p.m. at the LaPorte VFW, Post 1130, 181 West McClung Road.
This is the Annual Election of Officers meeting and the last meeting before the Annual Fund Raiser, which is scheduled for Saturday, April 27th. Obviously this is an important meeting, so please try to attend. We will need each and everyone of you to dig in and help with this fundraiser.
Also, if you have not paid your 2002 annual dues ($12.00), please do so ASAP. If you have paid your dues, but as of yet not received your 2002 membership card, please let me know.
Sincerely,
Richard J. Mrozinski, Jr.

MEMORIAL DAY 2001
Mark your calendars now! Saturday, April 27, 2002 is the date for the Annual Vietnam Vet Fundraiser! Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the Rock Doctors take the stage at 8:00 p.m.
This year’s event promises to be A-1! Starting off the day with honored guests LaPorte’s Mayor Kathy Chroback and Michigan City’s Mayor Sheila Brillson proclaiming April 27th as VIETNAM VETERANS DAY!
Swanson Center has once again generously offered to partially sponsor the event with their $500.00 donation. We cannot begin to thank Swanson Center Board President Shaw Friedman and the entire Swanson Center organization for this much appreciated support.
The Poster Campaign has been a total success with 48 sponsors! The community support was outstanding. We did, however, have a printing snafu and six (6) sponsors were inadvertently left off - we cannot begin to apologize for this error. We hope to be a lot wiser next year as the Poster Campaign is a great way to raise funds.
We will need additional door prizes, so if you know of individuals or businesses that could possibly donate a door prize, please contact these people and ask. Everybody likes to win prizes—so the more we have—the happier the crowd will be!
We hope to have several special guests at the Fundraiser. Both Mayor Kathy Chroback and Mayor Sheila Brillson have been extended a warm invitation to attend as our guests of honor. An invitation has also been extended to Sheriff Jim Arnold. Several other special guests will perhaps make an appearance, too.
Complimentary tickets to the event were issued to all the Poster Sponsors and we certainly hope to see a good representation of these friends of the Vietnam Veterans.
Please tell all your friends about the event and lets make this event even more successful than previous years!
Proud to be an American by Gregory Campisi
I did not hear the crashes.
I did not hear the explosions.
I did not hear cries of pain and horror.
I heard something else…
I heard a nation coming together in a time of need.
I heard the heart of America beating even harder
For those no longer beating.
And I heard the Bells of Freedom ringing
Louder than ever before.
Our planes have been taken
Our pride has not.
Our buildings have been shattered
Our hearts have not.
Our towers have fallen
Our Nation will not.
Our Nation will rise.
All nations who stand for Freedom will rise.
We the American people will rise.
These attackers have succeeded…
They have succeeded in bringing us together
And reminded us that we are all
brothers, all sisters, all Americans.
Most of all, they have succeeded in opening our eyes,
Opening our hearts and making them beat a little stronger
Than they did yesterday.
And reminded us that we are all
brothers, all sisters, all Americans.
Most of all, they have succeeded in opening our eyes,
Opening our hearts and making them beat a little stronger
Than they did yesterday.
LAPORTE COUNTY’S MEMORIAL DAY EVENTS HERE

Memorial Day 2002’s keynote address will be by our own, President Rich “Mose” Mrozinski. Roger LaGard has a wonderful event planned to observe and honor our many fallen comrades. Among the many speical guests will be Mayor Kathy Chroback, Sheriff Jim Arnold, as well as the Commanders of LaPorte County’s VFWs, American Legions, etc. The Honor Guard will include members from the County’s various veteran organizations.
KOKOMO’S HOWARD CO. VETS HOST MOVING WALL
The Howard County Vietnam Veterans Organization will once again host the “Traveling Tribute of the Wall” on May 30 through June 2, 2002.
The “Traveling Wall” is the largest replica of The Wall in Washington, D.C. measuring 328 feet long! This time it will be accompanied by a bronze replica of the Women’s Vietnam Veterans Memorial and a Korean War Commemoration display, as well. The “Wall” will also have two computers traveling with it. Through these computers you can access information on names, dates, etc. of those honored on the Wall.
should be a great event to attend. The boys in Kokomo know how to commemorate, honor and definitely party, as I am sure anyone who has attended their annual Vietnam Veterans’ Reunion can vouch for.
The Opening Ceremony (“Remembrance Program”) is scheduled for Friday, June 1st at 12:00 Noon. Entertainment begins at 7:00 p.m. when the first of several bands hit the stage. Local favorite band, the Vettz Band starts up at 9:00 p.m.
HCVVO has invited anyone and everyone to come on down and join in the ceremonies and the fun. Campsites are available and are free. There is no charge to visit The Wall, but if you plan on
From the looks of the HCVVO’ s March newsletter this
staying for the bands on Friday or Saturday night there will be a one time charge of $10.00 per person for both nights.
On Sunday, June 2 at 11:00 a.m. will be a church service and then a closing ceremony at the Wall.
This sounds like it will be a great weekend for not only Vietnam Veterans and their families and loved ones but for all veterans and their families.
Please contact the HCVVO for complete info on this event at (765) 628-0297 or email at sveterans @aol.com.
